The Artist Behind the Art
Modern day Austrian photographer, Sophia Beatrice takes on an inspiring and unique perspective when it comes to how and what she photographs. She photographs to capture the moment and to show that life is actually as beautiful as it seems. What ever the theme, Sophia is always making sure the scene and lighting matches the beauty in which she conceptualizes to her audience.
“Calm Your Mind from Around the World”, is a series of 11 photographs from Sophia’s travels and exploration. These images soothe the soul, relax the mind and give off high regenerative vibrating energies. Each were carefully selected to exert this theme and create an aura of relaxation for her viewers. Such photographs are of the world for the world, so to speak. Sophia’s inevitable quest for the beautiful moments, her love for nature and its people has led her to create this series as a way to send back the “good vibes”. This series explores the true, relaxing rhythm, that embodies the world amidst the illusion of chaos. All the images are printed on postcards so as to be easily shared with friends and family.
She has traveled to many places all over the world, her favorite being Thailand as she goes on to explain that it’s the literal definition of paradise. She loves exploring the land and taking pictures of the wild animals there.
“Nature means a lot to me and (I) wish people would be more grateful for it...”
She loved visiting Sweden for this very reason as it made her more aware of nature and its beauty.
After being gifted with a camera by her parents at the tender age of 7, she took pictures of everything and by the age of 12, she realized her true passion for photography. Sophia attended Graphische, the oldest school of photography in Vienna, Austria. This magnified her passion for photography as she felt very challenged by the many projects and teachers that had helped shape the beauty of her work.
“I want to capture the moment forever, so [in] 100 years [you will] not forget it.”
Sophia wants to share her experience of this and the world by capturing the essence of all the beautiful things she sees in the moment. But it’s not just the physicality or landscape of the place that inspires her photographs, sometimes its the spirit of people. She feels that people in the United States are friendlier, more positive and helpful than in Austria. Thus she loves coming to the United States, and feels she will be more successful here exploring her theme.
Nevertheless she believes the whole world is her home, thus explaining her wanderlust and inability to stay in one place for long.
“I do it [photography] because people like your work and you don’t do it for yourself.”
Sophia wants to make people feel beautiful and she would prefer to do more portrait photography. She talks about a project she remembers in school where she purposely placed disabled people in a high fashion magazine, giving them the chance to be included where usually they wouldn’t be.
As with any young artist she has fears about the success and future of her work, however her love for photography and taking the perfect pictures prevails over it all. In my life I'm in the constantly torn between "if it's meant to be, it will be" and "if you want it, go get it" but with my passion about photography it's kind of different... So when somebody asks me "what if it doesn't work out for you?" my answer will always be simply "well, it just has to"."
